Recently several citizens have received phone calls from someone stating they are from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and that the person has missed jury duty and requested that the person pay money or a fine.

Please be advised this is a SCAM….

The Japer County Clerk of Court’s Office, who sends out jury summons, will never have the Sheriff’s Office call and request payment over the phone, nor will we call you and advise you that you have missed jury duty. It will be in writing.

You must serve on jury duty unless:

You are over 65 and choose not to serve
You have provided a doctor's excuse stating that you have an illness that will not allow you to serve
You have a child under the age of 7 and you do not work outside the home.
Any other other reason would have to be addressed by the judge presiding at the term of court
Under certain circumstances, you may be transferred to another term of court

Currently, we accept online payments. You can now make your payments using www.expertpay.com or call (1-866-645-6347) or www.moneygram.com (receive code 14691) (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). ExpertPay accepts the following forms of payment: Discover, Mastercard, Visa, Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. A service fee is charged for the transactions. MoneyGram is also available at WalMart.

You can register for the online client portal to see case information and payments at clientportal.dss.sc.gov. Payment verification can be done via the State Disbursement Unit (SDU). Please call 800-768-5858 and have your case or member ID number available. If you do not have your case or member ID number, you may call your case worker at the numbers listed above.

You Must Apply in Person If:

You are applying for your first US passport
You are under age 16
Your previous US passport was issued when you were under age 16
Your previous US passport was lost, stolen, or damaged
Your previous US passport was issued more than 15 years ago

Your name has changed since your US passport was issued and you are unable to legally document your name change

When applying for a US passport in person, evidence of US citizenship must be submitted with Form DS-11. All documentation submitted as citizenship evidence will be returned to you. These documents will be delivered with your newly issued US passport or in a separate mailing.

Provide One Passport Photo

Your Photographs Must Be:

Identical
In color
2 x 2 inches in size
Printed on thin, photo-quality paper
Taken within the past 6 months, showing current appearance
Full face, front view with a plain white or off-white background
Between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head

Uniforms should not be worn in photographs except religious attire that is worn daily.

Do not wear a hat or headgear that obscures the hair or hairline.

If you normally wear prescription glasses, a hearing device, wig or similar articles, they should be worn for your picture.

Dark glasses or nonprescription glasses with tinted lenses are not acceptable unless you need them for medical reasons (a medical certificate may be required).

The Passport Card

The US Passport Card can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry and is more convenient and less expensive than a passport book. The passport card cannot be used for international travel by air.
